Graveside services for Weldon Reed, 79, of Justiceburg were held at 10 AM Saturday, August 17, 2019 in the Justiceburg Cemetery with Tony Isaacs officiating assisted by Delton Osborn. Visitation was held from 5 until 7 PM Friday at Hudman Funeral Home.
Weldon died on August 14, 2019 in Lubbock. He was born on June 6, 1940 near Justiceburg to William and Jewell (Brooks) Reed. He married Maritta Pennell on August 1, 1958 in Barnum Springs. He worked for TxDOT in the warehouse for many years. He played for events from Amarillo to the Big Bend. He and Maritta also owned and operated Reed’s RV Park at Lake Alan Henry. Weldon was the drummer in his country music band Solid Country for many years. In 1989 Weldon and Maritta were recognized as co-recipients of the Citizen of the Year award from the Post Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife Maritta Reed of Justiceburg, one son: Tommy and wife Jerri Reed of Justiceburg, one daughter: Meg Nelson of Justiceburg, four grandchildren: Alisha and husband Dustin Mathews of Waxahachie, Candi and husband Chris Dawson of Lubbock, Will and wife Tamara Reed of Post and Jordan and wife Jennifer Nelson of Post and 10 Great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Fernie Reed.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Lubbock.
