Mary Margaret Norman was born June 9, 1927, to Ira Lee and Janie Duckworth in Post, Texas. She graduated from Post High School in 1945 and went on to earn degrees in education and religion from Baylor University in 1948. She married Glenn Norman on January 1, 1949, and they lived on the family farm in Grassland for many years before moving into Post.
She earned a teaching certificate from Texas Tech University and taught kindergarten in Post Elementary for several years before moving to First Baptist Church Christian School where she taught until she retired at the age of 75.
She was a woman of deep faith, and truly lived the verse, “be doers of the Word and not hearers only.” She taught her children, grandchildren, and those that would come through her classroom to be diligent in hiding God’s word in their hearts and to be faithful in prayer. She served on the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (??) and was involved with the inception of the Southern Baptist’s of Texas. She played the organ and piano at First Baptist of Post for over 50 years and taught Sunday School to the many who would enter through the doors of the church.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Glenn Norman, and their four children: Judge Lee Norman (Marsha), Nancy Gordon (Billy), Bobby Norman (Kimberly), and Mary Ann Wright (Kevin.)
She is also survived by her eighteen grandchildren: Laura May (Matthew), Janie Stach (Phillip), David Norman (Brenda), and Steve Norman (Mary), Darby Key (Brice), Doug Flanigan, Maggie Guthrie (Vance), Nicholas Flanigan (Kristol), and Abby Louder (Jantzen), Benjamin Norman (Beverly), Ross Norman (Emilee), Jennifer Lee (David), Nathan Norman, Reese Seigler, and Hunter Seigler (Cricket), Glyn McKay (Richard), Sydney Wright, Jordan Clements (Corbin), and Averey Wright; and her 35 great-grandchildren: Tipton (17) and Ivy (13) May; Simon (13) and Elliot (9) Stach; Emily (13), Paylan (10), and Marley (10) Norman; Brock (6), Violet (5), and Wren (2 weeks) Norman; Olivia, Zoie, and Emma Key; Haddie (16) and Datch (13) Flanigan; Maddie (17), Koda (14), Brynne (10), Kersten (10), and Landry (5); Grady (13) and Kalyn (10) Flanigan; Macy, Titus, and Tenley Louder; Will (9), Caleb (7), and Hannah (4) Norman; Charlotte Norman (6); Caden (4), Chloe (4), and Kaylee (2) Seigler; Fletcher (2) and Isaac (8 mos.) McKay; and Camryn Clements (1).
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Frances Camp (Shelley), and her son-in-law, Kevin Wright.
Services will be held Saturday, October 26th at 2:30pm at First Baptist in Post. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Post, First Baptist Church Christian School of Post, and the Grassland Cemetery Association.
