BROWNWOOD – In a game where every second mattered, the No. 6 Post Antelopes made every possession count to beat the Valley View Eagles 35-7 Thursday, December 12.
The Antelopes began with a rocky start with Ashton Jefferson fumbling the ball and the Eagles scoring the first touchdown of the night. However, the Antelopes soon picked up the pace and tied the game with a 39-yard touchdown by a blitzing Slayden Pittman.
The Antelopes kept their pace, soon leading the Eagles by scoring another touchdown halfway into the second quarter when Taytem Thetford threw a hurtling pass to Nathan McDaniel for 3 yards. With 25 seconds left in the second quarter, Pittman ran 6 yards for another Bold Gold Touchdown completing the halftime score of 21-7.
With 1 minute and 22 seconds left in the third quarter, Pittman dropped the snap, but quickly picked up the ball and propelled it for 15 yards to Thetford who was waiting in the endzone upping the Antelopes’ impressive lead 28-7. The third quarter concluded with Steven Huff sacking the Eagles quarterback #30 on the Eagles 34-yard line. Pittman continued his remarkable feat by completing the final touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter finalizing the score 35-7.
Quarterback Slayden Pittman ended the game with 3 touchdowns, 59 rushing yards, 8 assisted tackles, 2 solo tackles and two tackles for a loss. Ashton Jefferson had 114 rushing yards, once again completing the game with the highest count of yards. Taytem Thetford finished the game with 1 touchdown, 9 assisted tackles, 1 solo tackle and 3 tackles for a loss.
This is the third time the Post Antelopes had been to the State Semifinals and seemingly the third time is the charm. In 1983 and 2001, the Antelopes season ended in this round. However, the 2019 Post Bold Gold Antelopes are now 15-0 and refused to let their season end here. They will now be meeting No. 1 Refugio, who are also undefeated with an outstanding record of 15-0, Wednesday, December 18 for the State Championship.
