POST – The old El Matamoros Restaurant stood at the corner of Broadway and 15th Street. What was once a booming Mexican food restaurant owned by the local Chapa family, has now been demolished after being left abandoned for over 2 decades after the opening of Chapa’s Restaurant on US-84. On November 12, 2019, the building was declared to be “dangerous, uninhabitable, and a public nuisance” by the Post City Council. At the city council meeting, Armando Chapa said he intended to tear down the building since bringing it up to code was too costly. The board voted to give Chapa until January 1, 2020 to have the building demolished. Destruction of the building began on December 22, 2019.
