KENT COUNTY – Saturday, January 17, the First Methodist Church building in Jayton caught fire.
According to Kent County staffer Nathan Brooks, the fire began by heavy ice pulling down electrical lines around 7:00 a.m.
The community of Jayton has been affected greatly by the fire.
“I hate to see it burn down like that,” one Jayton resident said. “It was a beautiful church.”
Prayers and blessings from surrounding counties have been flooding to those touched by the fire.
Although the fire was put out quickly with no injuries reported, the damage to the building was said to be extensive.
While it is being rebuilt, Reverend Jake Edwards of the city’s First Baptist Church has offered space for the Methodist congregation in their sanctuary for service at 4:00 p.m. on Sundays.
