ANTELOPE ARENA – The Post Antelopes challenged the Hale Center Owls in a remarkable game on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Post hovered closely over Hale Center’s score the first two quarters. In the first quarter, Post took a slight lead with 13 points to the Owls 10. In the second, the score was even closer with Post only scoring one additional point over Hale Center.
However, in the third quarter the Antelopes secured a large quarterly lead of 19-5 with Taytem Thetford scoring an impressive buzzer beater beyond the three-point line. Hale Center regained stamina in the fourth quarter scoring 12 points and Nathan McDaniel fouled out. However, the Antelopes managed to stay ahead scoring 14 of their own.
The Antelopes secured the victory with a 20-point lead for a final score of 58-38.
The Antelopes dominated from the three- point line with Thetford, Slayden Pittman and Holten Dickson totaling 27 of the Antelopes’ 58 in three-pointers. Thetford ultimately led the game in both points and rebounds with 19 total points and 13 total rebounds. Following closely was Pittman with 14 points of his own. Zach Courtney and Treyson Crow also assisted greatly in rebounding the ball, Courtney grabbing seven and Crow six.
ANTELOPE ARENA – For their last home game of the season, the Post Antelopes played against the Lockney Longhorns. With the Antelopes failing to rebound the ball sufficiently throughout the game, they lost 69-55.
In the first quarter, Lockney took a seven-point lead against the Antelopes, a lead they managed to keep into the second quarter. However, in the third quarter the Antelopes found their stamina and scored 10 points over the Longhorns. Their streak was soon ended as Lockney regained in the fourth quarter, with both McDaniel and Thetford
fouling out. The Longhorns scored 25 to the Antelopes’ 12 for a final score of 69-55.
Jayden Bustoz was the Antelopes’ top scorer for the night with 15 points. Josiah Ward and McDaniel followed with nine points each. Bustoz, alongside Thetford, also led in rebounds, each having eight total rebounds. Closely following was Zach Courtney with seven. Thetford, McDaniel and Bustoz also had two steals each. Crow led in assists with five followed by McDaniel with four.
NEW DEAL – Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Antelopes faced off against the New Deal Lions. Playing an edge-of-your-seat, close game, the Antelopes ultimately lost by one point, the final score being 46-45.
In the first quarter, the Antelopes took a one point lead over the Lions for a 12-11 score. However, New Deal gained stamina in the second, scoring five points over the Antelopes’ three. The third quarter score stood at 11-13, in favor of the Lions, the Antelopes steadily gaining. In the final quarter, the Antelopes managed to take the lead again scoring 19 to the Lions 14. The Antelopes fought until the sound of the buzzer, attempting to conquer the Lions, ultimately ending up one point short of doing so.
McDaniel was the Antelopes’ top scorer of the night with 15 points, nine of those being from the three-point line. Courtney
followed McDaniel with an impressive 11 points of his own. Thetford and McDaniel led in rebounds with nine each. Bustoz contributed with seven rebounds. Pittman, McDaniel, Bustoz and Courtney each had one steal. Thetford additionally had four
assists and McDaniel had three. Overall, the Antelopes fin- ished third in district play with a district record of 6-4 and an overall of 14-5. The Antelopes will begin bi-district play next week with dates, times and opponents to be announced.
