Family celebrates through nursing home window
On April 7, longtime Postite Odee Bell Kemp celebrated her 104th birthday.
However, this year, Kemp’s birthday was commemorated a little differently – without her friends and family in the room.
Due to a mandate from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, all visitation to nursing homes is currently prohibited in order to protect our most vulnerable citizens.
But Kemp wasn’t completely alone, Post Nursing and Rehabilitation Center staff took it upon themselves to decorate Kemp’s room, make her a celebratory shirt and even bake her a cake.
“Isn’t that a beautiful cake,” Kemp asked when she saw her birthday cake complete with candles that spelled out ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘104.’
Her son Johnny and her daughter Beth also came to the party, visiting with Kemp over the phone as they watched through the window.
