Coffee Wizards’ owners Jeff and Dawna Hood show off their new location.

Coffee Wizards recently opened its new location at 508 N Broadway on June 8, 2020.
“It’s been an exciting and bittersweet week.”
What started as a booth at Trade Days in June 2017 is now a full-service coffee shop in a permanent store-front in Post.
Coffee Wizards’ Owners Jeff and Dawna Hood opened their new location at 508 N. Broadway to the public on June 8.
“It’s been an exciting and bittersweet week,” co-owner Dawna Hood said. “We opened our coffee shop on Monday and sold the coffee trailer on Wednesday.”
While the location is new, Coffee Wizards is not. In fact, Jeff and Dawna started this venture three years ago.
“We started with a booth at Trade Days in June of 2017,” Dawna said. “It was my husband and daughter, Autumn’s, idea. They were focused on selling their fresh roasted coffee beans. In February of 2019, we decided to open the coffee trailer on Main and Broadway.”
However, Jeff and Dawna’s passion for coffee goes back far beyond 2017.
“My husband was an at home coffee roaster for many years and wanted to share that passion,” Dawna said. “I have wanted to own my own coffee shop for 20 years. When we lived in the Dallas area, I used to reminisce with my friends about owning a coffee shop one day. With having young kids and life being so busy, my dream was put on hold. Moving back to my hometown of Post a few years ago, I was able to start dreaming again. My kids are grown now, and Post has given me the opportunity to live my dream.”
After leasing the building in March, the duo began construction in early April.

With a dine-in space, customers are welcome to either sit at a table or at the bar.
“We are excited to bring our passion for coffee to all of our friends in Post,” Dawna said. “I felt like if Post supported us in the coffee trailer that would be proof that a coffee shop would be successful. We have been hard at work since early March to open the Coffee Wizards storefront location.”
Through construction, they’ve had the help of many friends along the way.
“It’s so hard to name everyone who helped us through this build-out, but we would like to mention some key people: Chad Cowdrey for building our amazing cabinets, Justin Hyndman for helping us out in so many ways, Amber Fisher for amazing décor, and my sisters Tina Romine and Tori Reed for their many hours of painting and cleaning.”
With more space, the Hoods have introduced some new features.
“There is much more room,” Dawna said. “It’s a lot more comfortable because we are not running all over each other. It also allows us the ability to provide a dine-in option.”
Although the Coffee Wizards’ location has changed, customers can still expect to find their old favorites, including the popular caramel macchiato along with a multitude of other menu items – all made with in-house roasted coffee beans.
“We sell many items – lattes, espressos, cold brew coffees, fresh pour over coffees, frappes, frozen lemonades and shaved ice,” Dawna said. “In addition, we will be adding our famous fried pies that we currently sell at trade days along with other homemade muffins, cookies and other bakery items. We also sell customer fresh roast coffee beans for those who like to brew their own coffee. Our biggest difference is that we roast all of our own coffee beans in house to our own specific profile and blend. That is why our coffee is amazing.”
Besides coffee, customers also will find some of Donna Cowdrey’s homemade dinners at Coffee Wizards’ Broadway location.
“Many of you already know that Donna Cowdrey is a great cook and has been offering dinners to-go at Coffee Wizards during the Covid-19 pandemic,” Dawna said. “She will continue to offer these from our coffee shop. The menu is posted the weekend before on Donna’s and Coffee Wizards’ Facebook page. If you see a meal you would like to try, you can simply message us the day before, and we will add your name to the list. The meals are amazing, and the instructions are easy to follow.”
For those who haven’t been by yet, Dawna encourages a visit.
“Thank you for all your patience with our transformation,” Dawna said. “I really think Post will love the store. We hope to see y’all there!”
