Jones celebrates final year as president with record breaking attendance

By Elizabeth Tanner—

The 80th Annual Post Stampede Rodeo broke 2019 attendance records for both the rodeo and dance each night with approximately 1,100 guests attending Thursday, 2,100 on Friday and 3,300 on Saturday.

“Thank you to all of the fans who joined to celebrate our rodeo, our freedoms and our way of life,” President Lane Jones said.

Jones also thanked ntitle sponsor GermBlast, Clay Cash with CCC Ranches, South Plains Vet Clinic, the Lubbock Fire Department and the Lubbock Mounted Police for participating and helping with the First Responders Night as well as all of the workers and volunteers who helped each night.

“Thank you to every single fan, every contestant and especially every sponsor that stuck with us on our 80th anniversary,” Jones said. “A special thanks to our rodeo committee guys who busted their tails and made all of this happen, and their families who stood by us, helped us and supported us through the last few weeks of late night working to get things done. We couldn’t have done it without the hard work, determination and passion of rodeo from our community, county and rodeo board.”

This being his last year to serve as president after 22 years of being on the rodeo board, nine of which he served as president, Jones said he will miss many things about playing such a significant role in the production of the Post Stampede Rodeo.

“You know, as far as being president, the main thing I will miss is just being able to represent such a great group of men that are on the committee,” Jones said. “Those guys and their families are special folks, and they mean the world to me and my family. They all made my job easier and any single one of them would do anything for each other at any time.”

Jones, who will continue to serve as a committee member, said he is excited to be able to continue interacting with the fans and contestants.

“A lot won’t change because I’ll still have my job to do during the rodeo like all the other committee men,” Jones said. “That’s what’s important to make it as successful as it is. I’ll still see and talk to all of our help, fans and contestants, so I’ll still get to enjoy that part of it which is pretty dang special. It’s been a good ride for sure.”

United Professional Rodeo Association payout totaled $38,856.60.
