Post Lady Lopes, 3-2, opens season with loss to Idalou

While the Post Lady Lopes volleyball team lost its season opener to Idalou 3-2 on Aug. 10, they have bounced back and have a winning record, 3-2, as they prepare to take on Poolville and Milsap next week.
Post dominated the first two sets against Idalou, winning 25-23 and 25-21. However, in the third set, Idalou began its come back, winning 25-12. In the fourth set, Idalou dominated Post, this time 25-14, tying the match at 2-2. Coming close in the fifth set, Idalou beat the Lady Lopes 25-22.
The next day, the Lady Lopes challenged both Coahoma and Lamesa. While Coahoma proved tough for the Lady Lopes as they suffered a straight a 3-0 shutout, the Lopes gained stamina, taking a 3-0 shutout of their own against Lamesa.
On Friday, Aug. 14, the Lady Lopes were on the court again, this time facing Knox City and Forsan.
The Lady Lopes defeated Knox City in four sets, 4-3. Briley Miller lead the team with 14 kills and six service points. Jaylen Pittman was not too far behind with 14 service points and seven kills.
Defeating Forsan in three sets, Pittman lead with 17 serves, eight aces and two kills. Miller had eight service points, four aces and six kills. Shayla Brown added five kills and seven service points.
“We had a great turnout for the 2020 Post volleyball season,” Coach Stephanie Jenkins said. “Approximately 40 girls are playing volleyball.”
Along with working on their volleyball skills, the girls competed in the Annual Tire Flip in which junior Briley Miller and Marti Cruse are champions.
Next, the Post Lady Lopes will face Poolville and Millsap on Aug. 25 in Poolville, Texas, beginning at 3 p.m.
