The Post Varsity Lady Lopes’ hit the road for the first time this season, securing wins against both Olton and Newcastle this past week.
First up, the Lady Lopes shut out the Olton Fillies on Monday, Aug. 17 for their fourth straight victory. The Lady Lopes started strong, beating the Fillies 25-7 in the first set. Attempting to make a comeback in the second, the Fillies scored 23, however; still fell with the Lady Lopes scoring 25. The Lady Lopes scored another 25 in the third set, with the Fillies only scoring 9 for a complete 3-0 shutout in favor of the Lady Lopes.
Playing both the Benjamin Fillies and Newcastle Lady Cats on Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Lady Lopes dominated Newcastle, 3-1, but fell to Benjamin 3-0. With both the Lady Lopes and Fillies scoring high throughout four sets, the Lady Lopes ultimately came out on top with a score of 25-22 in the first set, 25-16 in the second, 23-25 in the third and 25-13 in the fourth for a final of 3-1. Benjamin proved more of a challenge, shutting out the Lady Lopes in three sets with set scores totaling 8-25 in the first, 8-25 in the second and 17-25 in the third for a 3-0 shut out in favor of the Lady Cats.
Traveling to Poolville on Friday, Aug. 21, the Lady Lopes challenged both the Poolville Monarchs and the Millsap Lady Bulldogs, dropping to both teams. Although the Lady Lopes put up a strong fight, scoring double digits every set, the Monarchs shut out the Lady Lopes in three sets, scores totaling 18-25 in the first, 15-25 in the second and 15-25 in the third. Back on the court, this time challenging the Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Lopes were dominated yet again with a final of 1-3. The Lady Lopes struggled the first two sets, with the Lady Bulldogs scoring 10 points above the Lady Lopes in the first set and nine in the second. Coming back in the third, the Lady Lopes scored 10 points above Millsap but lost the fourth set with a score of 18-25 for a 1-3 final score.
Next, the Lady Lopes will challenge the Littlefield Lady Wildcats and the Pecos Lady Eagles at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29 in Littlefield, Texas.
