The Post Varsity Lady Lopes took on both Tulia and Littlefield this past week, beating each in five sets.
“It was definitely a team effort,” Coach Stephanie Jenkins said about the win against Tulia on Aug. 5. “Our back row did a great job on defense. Our defense this year has been the key to keeping us close in matches and helping us win.”
With sets of 17-25, 25-16, 12-25, 25-21 and 16-14 with Briley Miller, Leah Moreano and Jaylen Pittman each garnered six kills. Camryn Cowley contributed four kills and Aneliz Alaniz add three kills and 12 service points with four aces.
“The girls have been working really hard,” Jenkins said. “We have been playing a ton of volleyball – three games a week since two-a-days.”
Jenkins commends Libero Laci Gonzalez and Defensive Specialists Marti Cruse and Leah Gonzalez for their defensive skills on the back row that have helped them secure their last few wins including the 3-2 win against Littlefield on Saturday, Aug. 29 with sets of 5-11, 20-25, 25-14, 18-25 and 15-5.
“Laci has been tremendous on the back row,” Jenkins said. “She has learned how to handle a hard-hit ball.”
Jenkins also applauds the front row for their blocks.
“Our front row has really stepped up our blocking,” Jenkins said. “We are getting a lot of touches, so the back row is able to play it up. I’m super proud of all the girls this season.”
Next, the Lady Lopes take on Aspermont in the first district game at 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8 in Antelope Arena.
