Post Antelopes’ strong offensive line, defense prove too much for Tolar Rattlers in season opener

The Antelopes’ stout offensive line and strong defense together crushed the Tovar Rattlers 70-14, Friday, Aug. 28 in Clyde, Texas.
Ashton Jefferson kicked off the Antelopes’ scoring streak, running 22 yards for first touchdown of the night. The two-point conversion on a pass by Quarterback Slayden Pittman to Nathan McDaniel was good, capping the first quarter score at 8-0.
Starting the second quarter strong, Pittman ran in for a one-yard touchdown and completed a successful point after kick, bringing the Antelopes’ lead to 15-0.
With the Rattlers in possession of the ball, Shawn Looney intercepted the ball, securing the Antelopes’ third touchdown of the night.
Back in possession, the Rattlers pass was intercepted yet again, this time by Avery Clarkson. Three plays later, McDaniel took the ball into the end zone on a five-yard run, securing another Bold Gold touchdown, and a successful point after kick by Pittman pushed the second quarter score to 28-0.
Only 22 seconds into the third quarter, McDaniel completed his second touchdown of the night, on a 30-yard run. The point after kick by Clarkson was successful, upping Post’s lead to 35-0.
With the rattlers unable to advance 10 yards in four downs, the ball was punted to the Antelopes 20-yard line where Krece Kirkpatrick returned the ball to the Antelopes 27. Slayden Pittman then completed an impressive 73-yard pass to Nathan McDaniel who took the ball into the end zone for his third touchdown on the night and a score of 41-0.
With the Rattlers in possession, the ball was fumbled and recovered by Post’s Jayden Bustoz giving control to the Antelopes. Clarkson completed a successful point after kick for a 42-0 lead.
With nine minutes left in the third, the Rattlers crossed the goal line for their first touchdown of the night, on a 19-yard run, bringing the score to 42-7.
The Antelopes answered with a touchdown by Clarkson on a 72-yard run, and Clarkson’s successful point after kick pushed the score up to 49-7.
After a failed 23-yard field goal by the Rattlers, Steven Huff fumbled the ball and the Rattlers took advantage of the fumble to score their second and final touchdown of the night.
The Antelopes then completed a touchdown by Jefferson for on an 83-yard run and a successful point after kick by Clarkson pushed the score up to 56-14.
Finishing off the third quarter, Pittman completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Kenddrick Curtis, bringing the third quarter final to 62-14.
Beginning the fourth, Jadon Hair intercepted the ball, but Huff fumbled giving possession back to the Rattlers. However, the Rattlers pass was intercepted by Curtis on the one-yard line. Carter Rankin took the ball on a one-yard run for a touchdown, and with the two-point conversion, the Antelopes put the game away, 70-14.
McDaniel had three touchdowns, 98 receiving yards, 56 rushing yards, three assisted tackles and one sack.
Jefferson had two touchdowns, 122 rushing yards, 83 kickoff return yards and one solo tackle.
Pittman had one touchdown, two point after kicks, 208 passing yards, 21 rushing yards, one tackle for a loss, three solo tackles and three assisted.
The Post Antelopes challenge the Forsan Buffaloes at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 4, in Forsan, Texas.
