Fire at Lake Alan Henry
A boat engine compartment explosion and fire injured two small children on the boat ramp at Lake Alan Henry around 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, according to Texas Game Wardens.
The boat operator was able to put out the fire with his on-board fire extinguisher, according to Lieutenant Game Warden Aaron Sims.
The two female children were transported to the hospital in Lubbock, Texas, to be treated for second degree burns. They were later released, according to Sims.
The Garza County Constables Office, Lubbock Police Marine Units and Lubbock Fire and Rescue all responded to the incident. When the call was dispatched over the radio, two nearby Game Wardens responded to assist with injuries and the accident investigation.
Initial indicators for the cause of the explosion are a buildup of gases from the gasoline near the inboard engine, Sims said.
