James “Jimmy” Allen Bird III, 91, of Post, Texas died on December 8, 2020 in Lubbock, Texas.
Jim was born on December 4, 1929 on the Bird family ranch in Garza County to James Allen “Al” and Henrietta (Gray) Bird II. He later married Ada Lou Chambless on July 7, 1950 in Roswell, NM. Together they enjoyed 70 years of marriage, living on the Bird Ranch in Garza County.
Jim was one of the longtime, real cowboys. He always worked hard on the ranch and was proud to have one of the best cattle working ranches in the area. He loved to sit by the fireplace, look out the window and see his cows and the natural beauty of the ranch. He was one of the best lefthanded cow ropers in the area, winning a number of rodeos. Jim also loved to dance and play the fiddle.
Survivors include his wife, Ada Lou Bird of Post, Texas; three daughters, Sherry (Roy) Sappington of Lubbock, Texas, Cindy (Rick) Shepherd of Lubbock, Texas and Dana Bird of Post, Texas; eight grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lindy Bird in August 1971; and one son, Jay Bird in September 2004.
Private family services and interment were held on the Bird Ranch.
