On Saturday night, April 17, Garza County Sheriff’s officers arrested Post City Manager Deana Smith after a single-vehicle accident west of Post.
According to information obtained by The Post Dispatch, Smith, 57, was booked at about 10:40 p.m. into the Garza County Jail Facility on a Class B misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated.
Officers responded to a call of a one-vehicle accident at FM 399 and FM 1313 around 8:30 p.m. The arresting office reported the driver appeared to have disregarded the stop sign at a high rate of speed and hit a large dip in the road. The car left the roadway and ended up in a cotton field. A broken bottle of alcohol was found next to the vehicle.
The driver identified herself as Smith. A strong odor of alcohol was detected on the driver, her speech was slurred and was observed as swaying while standing in place.
