Approval of inmate housing contracts tops Commissioner’s agenda

Motion was made by Commissioner Charles Morris and seconded by Commissioner Jerry Benham to approve the new inmate housing contracts from Briscoe, Crane, Dawson, Kent, and Lubbock counties that will include new inmate housing fees for the Garza County Jail facility under the new agreements.  Sheriff Morgan explained to commissioners in an earlier meeting the increase cost of supplies the jail has incurred, the facility would not be profitable with the current charge of $45 per day for out of county inmates.

Morgan said, “I have visited and compared rates other counties charge for out of county inmate housing.  We currently have one of the lowest rates in the area.  The new rate of $55 per day will bring us in line with other counites in the area.”
