Graystone Media Group has announced the sale of three of its Oklahoma newspapers to Hicks Media. The sale of the Altus Times, Frederick Press-Leader, and Mangum Star was effective July 1.
Hicks Media, which owns and publishes the Post-Dispatch, is based in Lufkin Texas. Its other newspapers include the Red River Sun in Childress, the Knox County News-Courier in Munday, and the Silsbee Bee in Silsbee.
Hicks Media President Jay Williams said the papers in Altus, Frederick, and Mangum are a perfect fit for the company, whose newspaper holdings are focused on community-based papers.
“We are very excited to expand our family of newspapers into Oklahoma,” said Williams. “These papers are a good geographic fit with some of the papers that we currently operate in Texas. We appreciate Larry Miller and Graystone Media Group for entrusting us with the work they have done with the newspapers in Altus, Fredrick, and Mangum. We understand how important community newspapers are to the people whom they serve. We look forward to serving these communities in southwest Oklahoma.”
