City approves changes to ordinance regarding carports

City Council approved the proposed changes to city ordinances after a public hearing was held on Tuesday, July 13 during the regular scheduled meeting.  No public comments were voiced during the hearing regarding carports and accessory buildings under Section §14.02.472 labeled Yard Limitations.

The change will allow property owners to place a carport 19.5 feet from the back of the curb as opposed to the 25-foot ordinance now in place.

Michael Isbell, Emergency Management Coordinator, updated the council on grant to FEMA for reimbursement expenses the city experienced during the water line break in February.

Isbell said, “Even though all the paperwork was in order the city grant to FEMA was denied, because the work was a permanent fix and not temporary.”

The councilmembers expressed disbelief and frustration on how the city would temporarily fix a major water line break. Isbell told the council he would continue to monitor the FEMA grants process in the event another category would open where another request could be made for reimbursement.
