Census figures shows a decline in Garza County population

According to data released last week from U.S. Census Bureau, Garza County’s population of 5,816 is down 10 percent from the estimated 2010 population of 6,461.

Surrounding counties also experienced population declines with the exceptions of Lubbock and Scurry counties.   Lubbock County recorded 310,639 residents in 2020 a double-digit percentage increase compared to 278,831 reported in the 2010 data.   Scurry County at 16,932 residents in 2020 grew by only nine residents in the 2020 census.

Lubbock’s population grew by 12.6 percent in 2020 to 257,141.  Data was not immediately available for cities with populations less than 5,000.

Census figures provide critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products and support for individuals and their communities.
