Thanksgiving dinner prices

Body
All we have heard this year is how much everythingcostscomparedtoafewyearsago. This is Thanksgiving week, and time to cook a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Let’s look back through the years to compare the cost of some of the groceries we have bought at the store for our Thanksgiving meal. The traditional meat is turkey and/or ham with dressing. I have to have cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, green beans or the infamous green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, deviledeggs, andsometypeofsalad.Itmight be tossed vegetable salad, fruit salad, or congealedsalad.Wecan’tforgetthepumpkin and pecan pies.

Thanksgiving Strategies

Body
Thanksgiving is the greatest ofallthefood-centeredholidays. July Fourth is hot dogs and beer. Christmas is sugar highs and multitudinous distractions. New Years is about regrets in the cold, harsh light of the next morning.

Turkey Roulade

Most of us want to uphold our family traditions, serving a similar Thanksgiving menu, year after year. That’s not to say we don’t enjoy adding something a little different to the table, occasionally.

FROM MY DESK

Body
We’re less than six days away from Thanksgiving, and it’s time to kick it into high gear. I get the honor of making the dressing! Yes, it is dressing, not stuffing, and yes, it is an honor. I will pass the recipe on soon enough. We divide our time with our respective families now. Only a short nine years ago, we didn’t dare divide our time. We all went home to momma’s. And before Momma’s was the gathering place, we all went home to Granny’s. I don’t think my Granny would understand the busyness of life now. When we were little, my Granny would fix Thanksgiving dinner for nine grandchildren and four adults. She did all the cooking. We always had chicken and dressing cooked in the dishpan. There was no such thing as a disposable pan or take-out.

Slowing down with Jesus!

Body
Sometimes we just read a verse from Scripture too quickly! Life certainly seems to be going by faster and faster. I’ve decided to start slowing down as I read the Bible! Jesus said, “As the Father Loved Me, I also have Loved you; abide in My Love.” John 15:9. God has been and is so intentional with us so that I will be intentional with Him! It is what we need the most: to come to know and love the Lord more and more! There is always more with Jesus! After all, everything in the Christian life is by Grace through Faith in Jesus!

Slaughter Family, part two

Body
In 1898, J. B. built a house in Fort Worth for his family. He sold his holdings in Glasscock County and leased land in Borden and Garza Counties. There he met Abraham Nave and James McCord who owned the Square and Compass Ranch. J. B. bought 150,000 acres of the ranch in 1901, naming it the same as his brand, U Lazy S. He hauled lumber from Colorado City to build a home on the ranch for his family. After selling the house in Fort Worth, the family permanently moved to the U Lazy S Ranch.
