James D’Wayne Gannon passed away February 16, 2023, at the age of 72. D’Wayne was born to Sam James and Verna Adell (Bass) Gannon on August 8, 1950, in Crosbyton, TX. He grew up in a farming and ranching family as the oldest of four children, attended school in Post, TX, and graduated in 1968. Following graduation, D’Wayne attended South Plains College in Levelland, TX where he graduated in 1970 and Texas Tech University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science in 1973. While in college, he was a member of both the livestock judging and rodeo teams. After graduation, he worked in the oil, gas, and uranium industries before becoming a land appraiser for the State of Texas General Land Office in 1986, where he was employed for more than twenty years. D’Wayne enjoyed ranching, raising livestock, hunting, fishing, and team roping. He specifically enjoyed raising show goats with his daughter and helping 4-H and FFA youth livestock exhibitors develop a love for the agriculture industry. D’Wayne rarely met a stranger, and if he did, they quickly became a friend. He had an infectious laugh and smile and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a pillar in the lives of his family, especially his daughter. He will truly be missed by his family and a multitude of friends but will live on through cherished memories.
