Pumpkins. They’re a triple-use commodity. Carve one for Halloween. Then turn the scary face 180 degrees and voilà! You’ve got an autumn porch decoration. Third use? Want to guess? GUESS PAUSE. Pumpkin pie. Yeah, right. Don’t try this at home. Life’s too short not to buy the pumpkin in a can.

I can see the cars going up and down Main Street from my desk at the Post Dispatch. It is very different than when I was a kid making the drag. Back in the day, the middle of the street was wide open for parking from either side.
