Adopting a budget for 2022-23 and setting the tax rate for the county will be the main item on the County Commissioners’ agenda when they meet on Monday, Sept. 12 at 9 a.m.
Before calling for the vote, the commissioner’s court will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate.
The commissioners court voted to purpose a 2022-2023 tax rate of 71 cents per $100 property valuation. This is less than the past year’s tax rate of .7727 per $100.
In the previous meeting on Aug. 29, a public hearing was held. During the public hearing, one item was mentioned regarding raises for county officials. Commissioners previously approved a 5 percent salary increase for county employees. It was noted the increase has seven county employees’ salaries higher than at least two elected officials.
Commissioners set elected officials’ salaries in early August with no increases in their salaries.
The proposed tax rate should provide the county with about $3.8 million in revenue. When combined with income from other sources, that is expected to fund a budget totaling just over $10,885 million. The new proposed budget increase is about $1.3 million more than last year’s adopted budget.
The proposed budget can be found on the county’s website at https:// www.garzacounty.net/ page/cc.budgets.
The public hearing will be held Monday, Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners courtroom on the third floor of the courthouse.
