As July ends, those associated with education and those who have schoolaged children often see their summer as complete. When the first six weeks begin, educators often see a decline in reading levels if students haven’t read during the summer. You may ask, “How can two months make that much difference?” Unfortunately, it does matter. However, fortunately for many children in our community, they have continued to read this summer, either through our library books, through books given by the school library, through personally purchased books, or through electronic devices at home. Magazines worthy of a child’s reading level are certainly included in reading material.
Here’s an astonishing bit of data: *Post Public Library has saved its patrons over $50,000 in book costs since the year began!! (Source: Biblionix). I see this data daily, but I wanted to share that with you this week. Thank you, Post families, including all who have checked out books for themselves, their children, and grandchildren!! You continue to make this a thriving library, and both you and current educators will notice improvement due to your efforts. Do you hear your child speaking with new words or in sentences? They have been spoken to and read to; you are the reason for their growth!!
Keep them coming, and keep reading. Improvement happens for adults as well. Enjoy your last weeks of the pool and vacation but keep up the awesome work of reading to a child. It really is not work at all!!
