1942–2024
Barbara Ann Shumard Britton passed away in Post, Texas, on Sunday, June 23rd, 2024, holding her beloved husband’s hand till the end. She was born to V.L. (Buster) and Mildred Shumard on August 23, 1942, in Post Texas. She married her beloved husband, Melvin, on June 26, 1964, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Post, Texas, sixty years ago. They were the icon of love to their family throughout the years.
She worked for the Burlington Cotton Mill for many years and the Post Nursing Home for thirty-three years until retirement. Her greatest joy and accomplishment were the days spent caring for her grandchildren. She loved her family.
Barbara had the sweetest smile and kindest soul. She was the sweetest mother, the most giving grandmother “Meme” and a loving devoted wife of sixty years. She was beautiful inside and out. “To have known her was to love her.”
She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty years, Melvin Britton. Also, she is survived by her son, Randy Britton (wife Raquel Britton) of Post, Texas, and daughter, Kimberly Burtch, of Lubbock, Texas. Barbara had six grandchildren, Austin Britton, Brandon Britton, Cayce Britton, Cooper Britton, Jose Narvez, Michael Chris Burtch and Jamie Burtch. She had one great-granddaughter, Dylann Burtch.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Billy Shumard and Tommy Shumard.
Pallbearers will be Randy Britton, Austin Britton, Brandon Britton, Cooper Britton, Jose Narvez, Michael Chris Burtch and Marc McClain.
Funeral services were held June 26, 2024, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Post, Texas, with burial following at Terrace Cemetery under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home.
