Ella Louise Greathouse

 1939–2025

Memorial services for Ella Louise Greathouse, 86, of Post, Texas, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. James Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Terrace Cemetery under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home. Ella passed away at her home on July 3, 2025 with all her family by her side.

Ella Louise Greathouse was born June 2, 1939, in Rogers, Texas, to her parents, Hulen Hoyle, Sr. (deceased in 1994) and Verniece Viola (Spencer) Hoyle (deceased in January 2000). The family moved from Rogers to Brenham, Texas, and other places along the way before finally making their home in Post, Texas. Ella completed the 11th grade before having to help with taking care of her family. Ella soon met Willie Ben Greathouse, and they were married on December 20, 1958. To this union there were seven children born. Ella was an excellent homemaker, and she was a great mother and the best grandmother, as she was always busy cooking and cleaning for her family. In addition, she did house cleaning for several families in Post. Ella was a member of Mount Olive First Missionary Baptist Church in Slaton, Texas.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Willie Ben Greathouse; sisters Grace Scott, Dorothy Greathouse, Barbara Hoyle, Carol Lawson and Debra Hoyle; son-in-law, Jimmy Curtis; a grandson, Thorne Greathouse; and a great-great grandson, Kai Brown. Ella leaves behind the following family members to cherish her memory: Donnie and Patricia Greathouse of Lubbock, Texas; Gloria Curtis of Post, Texas; Timmie and Sylvia Greathouse of Snyder, Okla.; and Gregory Greathouse, Janis Greathouse, Craig Greathouse and Jana Greathouse, all of Post, Texas.

In addition, Ella leaves behind a legacy of 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Hulen Hoyle Jr. of Post, Texas, Scotty Hoyle of San Angelo, Texas, Faye Burleson of Houston, Texas, Marchelle Clay of Lubbock, Texas, and Sharon Drones of Abilene, Texas.
