Melanie Windham, 1942-2025

Melanie Thompson Windham, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully March 23, 2025, at the age of 83.

Born in Lanette, Alabama, in 1942, Melanie moved with her family to Post, Texas, in 1956 when her parents began working at the Postex Mill. Known for her beauty, grace and kind heart, she was crowned Miss Post in 1959 and graduated from Post High School in 1960. She married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Windham, beginning a loving marriage that lasted 64 years.

Melanie was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Post, where she found joy in her faith and fellowship through Bible study groups. Her life reflected the love of Christ, and she was a shining example of kindness, humility and compassion to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Thompson; her mother, Inez Thompson; and her sisters, Jean Thompson, Margaret King and Bettye Alford.

Melanie is survived by her husband, Jerry Windham; daughter, Kenda Baskin; son, Corby Windham; and sister, Rebecca Pierce. She also leaves behind four cherished granddaughters, three great-grandchildren and countless friends who were blessed to share in her life.

To know Melanie was to be touched by her gentle spirit. It was an honor to know her and be loved by her, as she faithfully followed the example of Jesus throughout her life.
