Larry Edwin Self, 77, died of a lengthy illness on February 8th, 2026, in his home in Weatherford, Texas. He was attended by his wife, daughter, and son during his last days in his home.
Larry was born in Weatherford, Texas, on Feb. 25, 1948, to George and Gladys (Pistole) Self. After receiving his GED, he soon joined the Marine Corps at age 17 on Feb. 10, 1966, entering as a Private (E1). Larry served in the Marine Corps until Jan. 20, 1970, and was honorably discharged as a Sgt. (E5), receiving multiple awards. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ Device, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 1 star, Good Conduct Medal 1st Award, and Rifle Marksmanship Badge. After his tour of duty in Vietnam as a Marine, he made his home in Post, Texas, and met the love of his life in 1970, while working at the Burlington Industries cotton mill. He married Patricia Bullard on Feb. 6, 1971. They started their lifelong journey together and had two children. In 1992, they resettled in Larry’s childhood home in Weatherford, Texas, and resided there for 34 years until his passing.
Larry always took pride in his jobs, gardening, yard work, and most of all, having his grandkids for a week every summer. He and Patricia always made sure to have memorable times while loving their grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Self; his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Becky Self of Breckenridge; his daughter, Tatina Mahanay of Weatherford; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tammy Self of Post; one niece, Crystal (Eric) Shook and sons of Breckenridge; one granddaughter, Amanda (Ty) Neff; three grandsons, Ethan (Ivett) Self, Justin (fiancee Molly) Self and Sterlin (Ivy) Self; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Neff and Arthur Self; and two more great-grandchildren on the way. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Larry’s family is celebrating his life with Military Honors on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, in a private ceremony at the family farm.
