Alton Mitchell “Bimbo” Pope was born in Houston, Harris County, Texas, on Oct. 26, 1953. He was 72, two months shy of 73. He passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, at his home in Post, Texas.
He grew up between Post and the Houston–Tomball, Texas, area all his life. He attended Tomball High School. Everyone knew he was a man of many trades. Alton was also a big fan and supporter of the Houston Texans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Eunice (Yarbro) Pope, and all of his siblings.
He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Pope, and son-inlaw, Shawn Jackson; four grandchildren, Jeffery Branson, Dixie Owens, Daisy Bruce and Daniel Bruce Jr.; and seven great-grandchildren. He also had close bonds with friends the Curtises; his home-health provider, Miss Erine; and Rascal, the family dog.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at Post City Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home.
