Paul Dwayne Capps, 1944–2026

Paul Dwayne Capps,

age 82, of Hunt, Texas, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness on Oct. 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born Jan. 5, 1944, in Herington, Kansas, Dwayne was a man defined by honor, hard work, and a profound commitment to family and country. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1968. During his service, he was stationed in Germany before deploying to Vietnam. As a Purple Heart veteran, Dwayne carried the values of discipline, bravery and sacrifice with him throughout the rest of his life.

Following his military service, Dwayne channeled his steady work ethic and skill into a lifelong career as a building contractor. For decades, he was known for his exceptional craftsmanship, honesty and pride in every structure he built.

On March 21, 1987, he was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Yvonne Capps, building a life together rooted in partnership and devotion. As a father to Golden and Brook, Dwayne was a pillar of strength, teaching his children integrity, resilience, and love. He was a loving grandfather to Trent Nettles, Allie Ragan, Cole McCrary and Ella Capps, whom he cherished deeply.

Outside of his work, Dwayne enjoyed working in his shop, going to garage sales, and watching ball games. His quiet strength, steady kindness, and the legacy of the life he built will live on forever in the hearts of those he raised and loved.

He is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne; his children, Golden Nettles (Scott) and Brook Capps (Lisa); his four grandchildren; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Inez Capps; a brother, James Capps; and his sisters, LaVerne Hays and Barbara Green.

The family is forever grateful to Peterson Hospice (Dr. Young and nurses Julie and Sarah) and to the VA Home Based Team (Dr. Del Toro, Laura, Melanie, Devin, Diane, Lauren, Amy, Sophie and Tim) for the exceptional quality of care and love they extended. We are deeply grateful to our wonderful caregivers (Elisa, Patti, Kathy and Mia) for the dignity, patience and love they brought to our daily lives while caring for Dwayne.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas.
