Born in Abilene, Texas to Horace and Lillian Daniell, November 9, 1942. His family moved to Lynn County to farm in 1943. After graduating from Wilson High School, he attended SPC where, with the assistance of Linda Roper and Tommy Stell, he met Lana Garner. A Nash Rambler and his mechanical skills developed the relationship into marriage on December 22, 1962. (As a testament to his mentoring and training skills, his son utilized the same technique some 30 years later working on a Subaru.)
After traveling for Nunn Electric, he and his family returned to Lynn County to farm, where he remained until April 6, 2024. His ventures included cotton, custom farming, not being afraid to step outside the box, a vineyard, alfalfa, cattle, and goats. He loved God and his church and served as a Deacon. His other loves included family, friends (who were really just extended family), street rods, going to the lake, fishing (but rarely catching), auction sales, cooking his cousin Barbara’s famous Texas Hot Cocoa Cake, biscuits and sausage gravy, having a good time, and chocolate shakes. Forget the sandwich…… save the shake!
His legacy is continued by his wife Lana; his kids Debbie (Dean) McCarty, Deedie (Darrin) Jones, and Gary (Heather)Daniell; grandkids Danielle (Tim) Arthur, Garrett McCarty, Justyn McCarty, Colton McCarty, Makayla (Bruce) Huff, Makenna (Mason) Callaway, Breea (Kit) Waldrop, Brielee Daniell, Breklyn Daniell: great grandkids Racheal Arthur, Avery Arthur, Hunter Arthur; and nieces and nephews he loved as his own. Horace Daniell, Lillian Daniell, James Daniell, and Velma Dee Phillips previously departed.
He had a knack for teaching without speaking. Sometimes, his lessons were learned by a trip to the J.P., a college semester without a car, or waking someone up to go to work earlier the later they stayed out. Other times, it was by his actions: never shirking any task, helping a stranded motorist, or loaning equipment.
As Papa always told the grandkids, “Watch out for the idiots and don’t drive like them either!”.
A Memorial service will be held Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Graham Chapel Church of Christ 1016 W 15th Street Post, Texas. Immediately following interment to be at Nevels Memorial Cemetery 1070 Ave D. Tahoka, Texas.
