Hiawatha Garza was born to Phillip and Guadalupe Martinez on June 12, 1940 in Post, Texas. She went to her eternal home on February 5, 2024.

Hiawatha was a loyal, hardworking, and dedicated employee for many years at Burlington Industries, Golden Plains Nursing Home and also worked at the family owned restaurants. More importantly, Hiawatha had a passion for being a caregiver. She devoted many years caring for family members as well as friends. Hiawatha enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved playing BINGO, board and card games and cooking.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted family: her children Mary Duncan of Lubbock, Arthur Garza of Lubbock, Norma Garza of Post, Bea Welcher of Lamesa, Irma DiFelice of Colorado, and Jessica Renteria of Lubbock, 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by a brother, Cecil Martínez of Post, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Garza, five brothers, five sisters and her great grandson.

In honoring her life, let us remember the warmth she shared and the enduring love that binds this family together. Services were held on Thursday, February 8, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Post with Father Jacob Powell officiating. Services were under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home.
