Jerry Lawrence Epley, “Poppa,” age 88, passed from this world and into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, May 11, 2023, in Slaton, Texas, surrounded by loving friends and family.

Jerry was born to Lawrence and Thelma (Chesnut) Epley on December 2nd, 1934, in Duncan, Oklahoma; he was their only child.

He later graduated from Post High School in 1954.

Jerry married Lometa Perrin on April 10, 1955, in Post, Texas.

Throughout his life, Jerry worked in the oilfield as a drilling and completion foreman.

On October 18, 1956, Jerry and Lometa welcomed their only child, a baby girl, Debra (Debbie) Lynn.

Jerry and Lometa went on to live in various communities including Denver City, Snyder, Abilene, Midland, Big Lake, and Post. On June 14, 2011, Lometa passed away.

Jerry went on to find love again and married Marie Davis on October 6, 2012.

He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Jerry’s hobbies were golfing, playing games (while typically cheating), and aggravating people. In his younger years, he would attend local rodeos; there is even a picture of him taking a turn riding a bull.

Jerry is survived by his wife Marie, daughter Debbie, and her husband Dennis Mason, granddaughter Amy and husband Shawn Pennell, great-grandson Colby Pennell, and great-granddaughter Bailey Pennell, as well as life-long friends known as “The Big Lake Bunch.”

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the following individuals who went above and beyond to care for our Poppa during his illness: Alma Lopez, Doris Manuel, Tillie Duran, the ladies at Sisters’ Loving Arms, Legacy of Love, and Library of Legacies.

Graveside services were May 13, 2023, officiated by Travis Sweet under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home.
