JOAN HOOD
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Joan Coleman Drummond Hood has gone to be with her Lord and Savior on March 26, 2023. Joan was born in Ellenville, New York on April 16, 1939 to John Coleman Drummond and Marie Callahan Drummond.
Joan attended Amarillo College and graduated from Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in 1961 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Joan was the first female Mechanical Engineering graduate at Texas Tech. At Texas Tech she met Odie Hood and they were wed on September 2, 1961.
Joan was a stay-at-home mom and raised her two daughters Katrina Sue Hood and Debbie Anne Hood. Joan was a member of Girl Scouts for forty years and was a Girl Scout leader when her daughters were members. Joan was also a basketball coach and enjoyed playing golf with her husband and daughters. After her daughters entered high school, she began working at the Pantex Plant outside of Amarillo as an engineer in 1979. Joan was eventually promoted to the position of Department Head over Process Engineering where she worked until she retired in 1994. Joan and her husband Odie spent their retirement building and then living in their dream house on Odie’s family land near Justiceburg, Texas overlooking Lake Allen Henry.
Joan is preceded in death by her granddaughter Erin Cumbest and her parents. She is survived by her husband Odie Hood, her daughters Katrina Cumbest and her husband Joseph Cumbest and Debbie Neufeld and her husband Jerry Neufeld. In addition, Joan is survived by an older sister Ann Jones and her younger brother John Drummond (Skip).
Joan is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan Neufeld and his wife Sarah Neufeld, Emily Bakhaya and her husband Ziad Bakhaya, Cydney Adams and her husband Josh Adams, and Joseph Cumbest III (Trey) and his wife Gabriel Ashley Cumbest. Joan was blessed to also be survived by 3 great-grandchildren, Braydon Adams and Blakley Adams, and Landon Neufeld.
