LETA POOLE
Leta Stone was born November 23, 1941, to parents James Willard Stone and Mary Josephine (Stanley) Stone in Lynn County, Texas.
The family moved to the Graham Community when Leta was one year old. She went to Graham Chapel School until grade eight, then finished high school in Post, Texas, in 1960. She attended Lubbock Christian College and graduated in 1962. She married Elwyn (Pete) Pierce, and they had three children. They were divorced in 1982.
Leta went back to school at Texas Tech and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1976. Her first teaching job was with Tahoka ISD in 1987, where she taught reading. She was also the junior high one-act play director, UIL coach and cheerleading sponsor.
She married Wendell Eudell McClendon in 1989. He taught English and Spanish in O’Donnell, Texas, and French at Texas Tech University. He preceded her in death from cancer in 1992.
In 1988, she went to work for Crane ISD. While at Crane, she taught high school and junior high reading, directed one-act plays, and was the cheerleading sponsor, UIL coach and student council sponsor. She retired from teaching in 2003 after teaching for 26 years. She married Larry Kenneth Poole in 2005. They both grew up in Post, Texas. They made their home in Burnet, Texas, until her death.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerrel Stone; a son, Steve; and a sister, Lenona. She is survived by a daughter, Dawn Pierce Docktor, and husband, Paul, of Wellington, Texas; a son, Kirk, of Tahoka, Texas; and one stepdaughter, Kelly McClendon, of Italy.
She has two sisters, Kathy Dean and Mary Ann Brady, and her husband, Eddie. Leta has six grandchildren and many greatgrandchildren. She has many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her loving husband, Kenny, and his sons Greg and wife, Linda, and Jeff and wife, Mitzi, and their children.
A celebration of life will be held at Hudman Funeral Home, 615 W. Main St., Post, Texas 79356, on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 2 p.m.
