Lewis Mason

 1941–2025

Lewis Mason went home to be with the Lord he loved on July 4, 2025, after a brief stay at Covenant Hospital. Lewis was born on November 23, 1941, to Grover T. and Willie Pearl (Lewis) Mason in Garza County, Texas. Dad met his soulmate, Jane Maxey, in the Graham Community, where in the 7th grade, he “caught Jane’s eye.”

After graduating from Post High Schol, they married on June 25th, 1961. They made their home in the Graham Community. He began his farming career in Graham. He served on the Graham Co-Op Gin Board for 34 years. In 2016 he was the recipient of the 'Farmer of the Year' award for Garza County. When our dad was not farming, he was out feeding his cows, helping one of us boys with a project, moving Jane's geraniums, or just helping her with “honey-dos.” Dad never truly retired but would stop everything to go watch his great-grandkids’ activities, no matter how far he had to travel.

Survivors include his wife Jane, of 64 years, brother GT Mason of Albuquerque N.M.; and three sons, Brent (Michelle) of Post, Brad (Cynthia) of Post, and Bart (Angela) of San Angelo, Texas. Margarito Mares, at the age of 19, began working with our dad; having worked alongside him for 50 years, he became part of our family.

Nine grandchildren also survive him: Tye (Hayley) Mason of Post, Kenzie Mason of Slaton, Kambry (Dakota) McDonald of Post, Jessica (Adrian) Adams of Lubbock, Xane (Danny) Reiter of Post, Madison (Cody) Furr of Lubbock, Chloe (Luke) Whitehead of Midland, Cade Mason of Dallas and Mallory (Robby) Jones of Denton; as well as 11 great grandchildren, Ben Furr, Ayden Mason, Ryan Mason, Ruby Adams, Myles Mason, Spencer Mason, Sydney Mason, Samuel Reiter, Ava Reiter, Olivia Jones, Jack Furr and Wesley McDonald (due in September); and many loved nieces and nephews.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jody Mason of Post, and his sisters Joy Barron of Bossier City, La., and Jackie Hutton of Post. Dad’s love was evident every day. He was the absolute sweetest and hardest-working man we ever knew. We will surely miss you, Dad, and will always share stories, remember the advice you gave, and carry on your legacy.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 11, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hudman Funeral Home in Post. Services will be on Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. at Graham Chapel Church of Christ, where he was a member, with burial to follow at Terrace Cemetery in Post. surely miss you Dad, and will always share stories, remember the advice you gave, and carry on your legacy.
