MOVELDA HARP

Movelda (Gray) Harp was born on Sept. 6, 1930, in Lamesa, Texas, to Arvie Loyd and Sarah Cleta (Wilkerson) Gray. She attended Dawson High School and graduated Valedictorian in 1947. After graduation, Movelda married the love of her life, Billy Joe Harp in Welch, Texas on Oct. 15, 1947.

She was a homemaker and worked at First National Bank in Lamesa. Movelda was a devoted mother and wife and enjoyed cooking, reading, crocheting, traveling and playing games with friends and family. They were such a loving, fun, and dedicated couple who always put God first. They were wonderful examples to everyone. Movelda taught Sunday School for many years and pointed dozens of students to Christ.

Many would remember her as the sweetest yet most wise teacher. Movelda, being the oldest, was very instrumental in raising her five brothers and sisters. Movelda Harp was taken home on January 11, 2024.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Jacky Joe Harp and her husband Billy Joe Harp plus two brothers (Billy and Othal Lee) and a sister (Bobby (Gray) Hataway). Those left to cherish the wonderful memory are her daughter, Linda Self, and husband Marvin of Post, Texas and daughterin- law, Thressa (Harp) Baker of Stanton, Texas. Also, a sister, Patsy Erwin of Flippin, Arkansas and a brother, Loyd Gray and wife, LaVeda of Fort Worth, Texas. She was adored by 8 Grandchildren, Scott Lightfoot and wife Jenifer, Kristy Lightfoot and husband Roosevelt, Angela Pumford and husband John, Colby Self and wife Margine, Kaylee Sicotte and husband John, Amber Massey and husband Dustin, Tonya Harp, Sonya Ellis and husband Stephen: her 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Movelda had a full and blessed life.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Garner officiating. Interment will follow at Terrace Cemetery under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at the funeral home.
