Richard Fuentes was born March 5, 1958, to the late Amado Fuentes Sr. and Agapita M. Fuentes. Richard was the tenth of 12 children between Amado and Agapita. There were six boys and six girls. His father had an additional seven children.
Richard attended and graduated from Post High School. He attended four years of college at Texas Tech University but was unable to finish due to the death of his father and the need to care for his mother.
He started work at a young age hoeing cotton, then went to work at Boston Super Dog during school. He moved on to work at Allsups and United Supermarkets where he retired after 25 years. Once he retired, he drove the school bus and delivered mail for the post office. He was also on the board for TrailBlazers.
His many nieces and nephews meant the world to him. If you ever needed to know a birth date, Richard was the one to ask. He loved scary movies, roller coasters, Texas Tech basketball, frogs and he loved to lead singing at church.
Richard is survived by his three children, Nathan, James and Robert of McAllen, TX; Sisters Guadalupe (Manual) Zamora of Lubbock, TX; Albera Sanchez of Snyder, TX; Virginia (Sonny) Bevers of Post, TX; Rosie Gomez of Quannah, TX; Angelita Trejo of Ft. Worth, TX; and Mary Collazo of Garden City, KS. Brothers Amado Fuentes Jr. of Kyle, TX; Nicanor Fuentes of LaGrange, TX; as well as many nieces, nephews, great and greatgreat nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents and five and five sisters.
Services were held Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Church of Christ with interment at Terrace Cemetery under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home. The pallbearers were Alphonso Reyna, Bruce Bevers, Edward Zamora, Chris Sanchez, Gilbert Flores and Martin Fuentes. Honorary pallbearers are Augustine Soto and Arthur Sanchez.
